The Challenge
In the wake of rising inflation and economic hardship, many vulnerable families in Osogbo's underserved communities were facing severe food insecurity. Widows and elderly community members were particularly affected, often having to choose between food and medicine.
"We were seeing children going to school on empty stomachs and mothers skipping meals to feed their kids. The situation was critical, and immediate intervention was needed to preserve the health and dignity of these families," explains the OOSEEF Program Coordinator.
OOSEEF Intervention: Project Dignity
OOSEEF launched "Project Dignity," a targeted relief campaign designed to provide comprehensive support packages to the most vulnerable households. The intervention included:
- Distribution of staple food items (Rice, Beans, Garri, Oil)
- Provision of protein sources and nutritional supplements
- Essential household supplies and hygiene products
- Clothing distribution for children and elderly
- Health check-ups during distribution events
The drive focused on identifying households with no steady income source, particularly widow-headed households and those caring for orphans.
The Impact (Quantifiable)
Key Outcomes:
- Provided 3 months' worth of staple food supplies to 150 households
- Distributed clothing and shoes to over 200 children
- Conducted basic health screenings for 85 elderly beneficiaries
- Connected 20 eligible widows to our Vocational Training program
- Zero administrative costs - 100% of donations went to supplies
